Want to progress in your sales career but also want to Netflix ‘n chill? While sitting down to watch The Witcher (or whatever show is hot at the time you read this) may help you connect with leads, it’s probably not going to push you to go out there and be the best salesperson you can be. You need the motivation to go out there and exceed your sales targets and make some serious money, but we also understand that you need to rest and relax, so we’ve put together a list of the top 12 sales movies and TV shows of all time (in no particular order) to watch instead. 


Movies for Sales Motivation #1: Car Dogs 

Car Dogs (2017) is the story of Mark, the son of a callous car salesman who micromanages everything Mark does. Mark is given the chance to get his own dealership, but only if his whole team can sell 35 cars each in one day – that’s 300 cars. Will they overcome all the obstacles to win, or will they be stuck under Mark’s father’s thumb for good? A great film to watch when you want to do the impossible. 

Movies for Sales Motivation #2: Glengarry Glen Ross 

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) stars Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin (who’s speech from the film you may have seen before), and Jack Lemmon, and follows the story of a group of NYC real estate salesmen who are given the news that all but the top two will be fired the following week. Of course, more is at stake than just their jobs! 

Movies for Sales Motivation #3: Boiler Room  

Boiler Room (2000) follows a college dropout who lands a job as a broker for an investment firm and is fast-tracked for success. Problem is, the job may not be as legitimate as it sounds. If you loved The Wolf of Wall Street, this is well worth a watch. 

Movies for Sales Motivation #4: The Pursuit of Happyness   

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) is an iconic and beautiful movie based on the true story of a man who did whatever it took to provide a better life for his son. Even if you’ve seen it before it’s well worth another watch. 

Movies for Sales Motivation #5: The Wolf of Wall Street    

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio is a wild ride through the world of a fraudulent stockbroker who did whatever he could to win. A must-watch! 

Movies for Sales Motivation #6: Tin Men

Tin Men (1987) starring Danny DeVito and Richard Dreyfuss, tells the story of what happens when a minor car accident drives two rival aluminium-siding salesmen to go to ridiculous extremes to best the other. 

Movies for Sales Motivation #7: The Founder 

The Founder (2016), tells the true story of how Ray Kroc, a salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald and turned their small burger restaurant into the global phenomenon it is today.  

Movies for Sales Motivation #8: Used Cars 

Used Cars (1980), directed by Robert Zemeckis who also directed Forrest Gump and Back to the Future, tells the story of a used car salesman who has to save business from falling into the hands of the deceased owner’s rival brother.   

Movies for Sales Motivation #9: Two for the Money 

Two for the Money (2005) starring Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey, tells the story of a former college athlete who joins forces with a sports consultant to handicap football games for high-rolling gamblers.    

Movies for Sales Motivation #10: Cadillac Man

Cadillac Man (1990) stars Robin Williams who plays Joe, a car salesman who has two days to sell 12 cars or lose his job. Oh, and he also has to contend with his two girlfriends, a missing teenage daughter, and his ex-wife.     


TV Shows for Sales Motivation #1: White Gold  

White Gold (2017) a BBC show about a British 80s double glazing sales team, stars two of The Inbetweeners and Ed Westwick from Gossip Girl. While only two series were made, those 12 episodes are well worth a watch and, depending on when you read this, should be available on Netflix.

TV Shows for Sales Motivation #2: Mad Men  

If you’ve not yet watched Mad Men (2007), where have you been? Set in 1960s NYC, Mad Men follows Don Draper, the creative director at the advertising agency Sterling Cooper and is a beloved show of many. Don Draper is extremely smooth when it comes to sales – as you’ll see in the clip below. All seven seasons are available to stream or buy on most platforms so you’ve got no excuse!
